All UNPers should join Sajith-Wimal
Minister Wimal Weerawansa yesterday requested all UNP members to join its Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa who had fearlessly opposed any foreign intervention in the country.
Mr. Weeraswansa who was speaking during an adjournment debate on the Geneva resolution in Parliament yesterday said all sensible UNPers should join Mr. Premadasa to save themselves and the party. He made this point by stating that the UNP would suffer more setbacks in the future if it fails come up with a policy shift.
“The UNP opposed the war against terrorism during the final stages of the war and is still holding on to a similar stance on the national issue,” he pointed out.
The Minister explained that the UNP would suffer dire consequences if the party holds on to its present line of thinking with regard to the national issue and the international community. “You should follow your Deputy Leader who had opposed the UN and US without fear,” he told the UNP MPs who were engaged in a cross talk with him at that time.
He also threw a challenge at the UNP and requested the party to give Mr. Premadasa an opportunity to speak during the adjournment debate on the Geneva resolution which began in the House yesterday.
UNP MP Ajith P. Perera who responded to the minister later during the debate said his party would not hesitate to oppose the LTTE which was nothing but a cruel terrorist group.
