BBS pledges support to MR
The Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) yesterday (24) pledged their direct, unconditional support to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the 8 January election.
All organizational networks, affiliated to the BBS, will also back Rajapaksa, the BBS said, adding that no political organizations, including the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, were involved.
“So called good governance, democracy and the rule of law, all slogans of non-governmental organizations, the World Bank and the United Nations are presently being bandied about by common candidate, Maithripala Sirisena,” Chief Executive Officer of the BBS, Dr. Dilanthe Withanage claimed.
“There is no religious disharmony in the country as noted in Sirisena’s manifesto. There have been incidents instigated by cults and groups comprising Christian fundamentalists and Muslim extremists. Development and social equality is what is necessary in a Unitary State. Separatism cannot be allowed,” he opined.
He noted the Joint Opposition Alliance composed of Former Minister of Industry and Commerce, Rishad Bathiudeen (who the BBS claims backs the Sri Lanka Thawheed Jamath), Former Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Opposition and United National Party (UNP) Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge as part of an unholy alliance have put forward a manifesto containing hateful propositions.
” Is Sirisena against the halal way of slaughtering animals? Kumaratunge during Wickremesinghe’s time in power plotted to get Bathiudeen to her side,” Dr. Withanage explained.
All the forces that wish the country ill have aligned around Sirisena, General Secretary of BBS, Ven. Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera added.
“What these people who are accusing Rajapaksa of fraud and corruption by one family are really saying is that they too want an opportunity to enjoy the spoils. There are plenty of issues with Rajapaksa,” the Thera remarked.
