India, India, India
SL don’t have a policy to the country. It’s having only political agendas.
When government changes, it will be changed/stopped by the new one.
When SL was suffering at UN, only Russia, China, Pakistan supported heavily.
Now SL dumping China and marrying India, who vote against us during few times @ UN.
India is more closer to US and they follow their agenda.
With all these drama’s ultimately people in SL will suffer always.
We don’t see any ‘Yaha Palanaya’, instead we see political revenges.
If government changes during next election, the newly elected will have to face for all these consequences along with UN next session which postponed for Six months (With more witnesses)
For better or for worse Chinese aid programs are bilateral and invariably does not involve dollars. Who was responsible for the Mahaweil Development Project and who was responsible for conducting the environmental impact of the project? What has been the final outcome of the massive investment? The reservoirs are being silted faster than they could be dredged, and before long they will become white elephants and 1000s, further 100s of acres have been abandoned due to salination and with further research and development the future of the Mahaweli settlers are bleak.
Compare this mahaweil project with the those of ancient network of tanks and irrigation systems sustained to thrive.
Since independence in the late 1940s the population stood at around 8 million or so and nearly 70 years later the population has almost trebled during that time the area of paddy under cultivation has declined, with Shrima Shastri pact the tea land under cultivation has declined dramatically and the ministries nor the departments have no clue as to how much has it gone down by. The fate of the rubber and coconut (one time exporter) has declined. Yet the government continue to boast about the growth!
Without Chinese aid Sri Lanka would never have been able to defeat terrorism for LTTE record showed that it stood for terrorism, and with it both the tamil and sinhala communities knew what it is to live without fear. That created opportunities for development and while the WEST was debating on the morality of the defeat of terrorism …Chinese were directly involved in development and their vested interests are no less honorable than that any other philanthropic activity. At least Sri Lanka can be proud of their contribution.
We can learn and gain a lot more from the Chinese than the West collectively for we share a common culture in paddy cultivation and communal system something that west consider anachronistic. To forsake the Chinese would spell disaster for Sri Lanka and in a world riddled with contradictions it is best to bet on those who stood by us in the hour of need
