Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, Patali Champika Ranawaka stated that although the Rajapaksa Government invested Rs. 900 billion to develop Hambantota, no economic benefit was reaped by it.
He accordingly said that it was disappointing to see the present government making investments centered on Hambantota too.
He expressed these sentiments upon attending an event in Gampaha yesterday (14).

It is normal for Minister Champika Ranwaka to open his mouth to criticize YP once in a blue moon!
Minister of Megapolis and Western Development, Only the foundation stone was laid in Homagama. They all the same. Just wasting borrowed money from other countries.
Hon Champika,
Could you please let us know the logic behind your enlargement?
The bathalayas who ruled previously, dumped LKR 900b just to have their name on the entrance to the Hambantota Harbour.
They agreed to pay Chinese Investors (controlled by Govt) double interstate rates for the loan.
So, the country inherited an absolutely dead-duck in the form of a Harbour and another, the International Airport.
But it is not the bathalayas who are paying tax to service the loan; it is the amude wearing taxpayer who has to pay the loan.
This guy Maliki in YP (sweet-heart of the Boss No 2) is a wheeler-dealer par-excellence. He has negotiated some deals to get the harbour and the airport going. Of course, Maliki would have had his cut. But, net result, the amude=wearing taxpayer will be paying less to service the loan for the harbour and the airport.
