Don’t let public suffer from economic strife – Ranil Wickremesinghe
Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says the people battered by the coronavirus should not be made to suffer from economic strife.
In an address on social media the former Prime Minister said the challenges posed by the coronavirus epidemic must be considered a wake up call and considered broadly and transparently.
Ranil Wickremesinghe noted there were several issues that needed to be addressed locally and globally pertaining to the prevailing situation.
The former Premier also made several recommendations to the government pertaining to the economy.
Wickremesinghe claimed that the Vote on Account that was passed earlier was insufficient for the present crisis and suggested that a Vote on Account that is more suitable for the present to be passed.
The former Prime Minister further requested the government to create a background that will enable the country to receive the best possible support of the International Monetary Fund when it reveals its plan as scheduled in mid-April.
Additionally, he proposed the government to introduce an economic plan that covers all sectors taking into consideration present and possible future issues.
Wickremesinghe noted he proposed these recommendations as the measures announced by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka were inadequate, and requested the government to educate the public and take necessary action.

The Tourism Infrastructure that we have created should be reallocated for better purposes. Maybe we move primary schools there and convert existing school land to vegetable gardens cared for by the community.
Here we go again. Another clever idea from this senile do**ey bollocks. Volkswagen factory, megalopolis (mege cities) economic hub of the world, sky trains. 3 state of the art hospitals, electric cars, Mahindra, mahindra car factory in Honagama, Singapore style economy list goes on.
Anadrada,
I am sure very one knows the world economy is in strife. But you do not have to be so Fu—- blunt and paint such a gloomy picture. It is almost like you are enjoying and hoping for the worst to happen in Sri Lanka just because of your political preferences. If you don’t have any thing positive and encouraging to write then just keep your negative thoughts to your self.
Stanley, Agree 100%! There are some ‘skunks’ here who love this calamity and take utmost delight in taking Sri Lanka out of the world scenario and painting a doom & gloom picture for Sri Lanka only – with never a word of praise for what the GoSL has done up to now to contain this. Of course, what these skunks don’t admit is that if we had the bungling, in competent, lackadaisical Ponil + MaruSira pambaya duo at the helm, we would have surpassed the current USA figures by 10-fold by now!
