Foundation of all our development goals is accurate statistics – President
The future will always be on the right path, if it is based on the correct path at present, said President Maithripala Sirisena issuing a message to mark World Statistics Day 2015 which falls today (Oct.20).
“Therefore, new source of statistics, authoritative statistical methods, new technological knowledge and use of statistical systems are essential preconditions for taking the country in the path of speedy development”, the message further stated and added :in essence, the foundation of all our development goals is accurate statistics”.

Accurate official statistics is an essential source of information for formulating plans, strategies and policies in the process of development.
The future will always be on the right path, if it is based on the correct path at present. Therefore, new source of statistics, authoritative statistical methods, new technological knowledge and use of statistical systems are essential preconditions for taking the country in the path of speedy development.
In essence, the foundation of all our development goals is accurate statistics.
Official statistics are a great help to achieve the economic development and social welfare targets easily in this modern society of social welfare market economy. I appreciate the effort of all officials who prepare official statistics to achieve the above mentioned goals and to build a better future for the country.
Today , we celebrate the historic World Statistic day at a time when the country is taking rapid strides towards development. I express my best wishes for the initiatives taken by the Department of Census and Statistics to celebrate the World Statistic Day
