Ganja found in Div. Secy’s vehicle
The Hambegamuwa police, acting on a tip-off, yesterday arrested a person for transporting cannabis (ganja) in the official vehicle of the Thanamalwila Divisional Secretary.
Police identified the suspect as an employee of the Thanamalwila Divisional Secretariat.
Sources said that at the time of the arrest, the suspect was transporting 23kgs of ganja neatly packed in two cardboard boxes.
Asked whether the suspect had used a government vehicle to transport ganja on earlier occasions, a senior police official told The Island that he was being interrogated.
The police said the Divisional Secretary had no hand in the illegal activity and he had been away in Bandarawell when the vehicle was intercepted.
