‘Good Governance’ government was preoccupied taking revenge – PM
Leaders of the previous ‘Good Governance’ government were preoccupied taking revenge on my family members and close associates by instituting false court cases against us. Therefore, they had no time to carry out any development work for the country and the people during the past five years, said Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The Prime Minister was addressing a public meeting held at former Minister and Kurunegala District former Parliamentarian and Kurunegala District SLPP candidate Anura Priyadarshana Yapa’s residence in Pannala, Kurunegala.
“Former UNP Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe has been revealing as to who was responsible for these false allegations against us to imprison us for life and deprive us of our political rights and civic rights. Those leaders’ hearts were polluted with hatred, malice, jealousy aimed at seeking revenge. That is why they did everything to harass us without any valid reasons. There should be a limit even in taking revenge from your opponents. But they did it in the worst possible manner. However, the voters of the Kurunegala District and the country should understand the evil motives of the leaders of the previous government and hence, cast their votes wisely for the SLPP in order to enable it to usher a better and prosperous future for our country,” Prime Minister Rajapaksa said.
“When the Prime Minister and the President represent two different political parties, they don’t know what each other is doing as they act and work separately.
That is what happened during the previous ‘Good Governance’ government resulting in the people having to suffer. The leaders of the past regime sought the support of foreign powers too to defeat us during the past 2015 Presidential Election,” the Prime Minister said.
The Kurunegala District is gifted with four ancient kingdoms, namely, Yapahuwa, Dambadeniya, Panduwasnuwara and Kurunegala. We will do everything to develop this District after and safeguard your children’s future,” he said.

“When the Prime Minister and the President represent two different political parties, they don’t know what each other is doing as they act and work separately.
If this is the case why do you want a president and a prime minister. The best thing is to abolish the president post. Problem solved..
Dear Ranjith,
The P and the PM may come from different parties but they are two separate individuals.
Even if the P and the PM are from the same party but they are two separate individuals.
Ranjith, there is something called TEAMWORK and to work as a TEAM, members should respect one another, be willing to learn from another and be able to compromise.
These qualities are not prevalent in Sri Lankans.
All they want is quick money for themselves.
Dear Gamini. Your are absolutely right about “team work”. As a team you can achieve a;most anything.( e.g lions can bring down elephant working as a team). But we Sinhalese has not got that “team work” attitude. Filled with jealousy and the non functional education system we are not getting anywhere. When parents push their children to be the first in the class it create this jealousy and the self centered selfish attitude. No wander Tamils and Muslims got a upper hand in Sri Lanka
Guys a question for you. You talk about Teams but do not talk about a leader. Do we have proper leaders to lead and give direction to the Team? More than half of our leaders have been assassinated by LTTE. The remaining lot are old. Then, before JR papa changed the system we had a rubber stamp Prez and a strong PM position. Now we have a Prez with executive powers and a puppet PM. Why we need a PM now?
The 19A brought about a change in the status of P and PM.
The PM sits in Parliament and is directly answerable to Parliament.
On major matters, the P acts on the PM’s advice.
The Constitutional Council is the approving authority of senior appointments.
All put together, the set-up will ensure Democracy and transparency.
Unfortunately, 2015-2019, we had an idiot from Polonnaruwa Royal College who did not have a clue about democarcy and good governance. The 19A set-up is unlikely to work in 2019-2024.
True we have a dearth of next gen politicians with potential. The UNP breakaway mob are a set of clowns. The Blues are not grooming any next gen leaders either. Pity.
So Mr Amarakoon and Mr Gamini what is the solution for this madness.
