Words are cheep and talk is easy. The paradise this guy is going to create is unique. The whole world should take this man as a example to the man kind.
These are the words of a man who does not understand that this is the way of life. Not every one can have everything. Unless the government can own every business and employ every citizen. That wont happen because they stuff up the few corporations that are under the government as it is. This government has a big issue with the International schools. It will be much better if the Government schools start teaching more English to our young generation because the Sinhala educated people are always at a disadvantage when they seek employment in large Corporations owned by foreigners which pay better salaries than the local companies.
And how about teaching some manners to these children.
Rajitha
I agree that the kids need to be taught manners but that is a global problem.
Yes the objective of free education was to provide equality opportunity in education. This failed because in principle this did not happen. Even in urban areas parents found some more attractive than others and these were reflected with the results at the public examinations.
I had a friend who was the only person to have graduated from Badrawathie College (Narahenpita) this school apparently had around 1000 registered students. Who should be responsible for this deplorable state in education and what had the Ministry done about it. There are hundreds of schools going through the same fate. If the standards improved then there would be not so much competition to get admission into better schools.
In principle the scholarship exams serve the purpose if there is streaming to better schools but it is not the case. If scholarship exams are designed to get a place in Trinity Royal Ananda or Nalanda then those attending these schools should go through the scholarship exams and if their standards fall below par then they should be demoted. Since the ministry nor parent want this to happen the only way out is to ban scholarship exams, Further the president nor the prime minister should felicitate these schools.
English education is a must if we are to compete globally. Few years the Ministry experimented with a scheme to provide a crash course in English at A level. What the Ministry ought to consider is to make English compulsory from pregrade. The is a problem of finding English teachers can be overcome by using the internet.
The government ought to ban private schools and free education should be based on a means test
