India to import raw rubber from Sri Lanka
COLOMBO: The All India Rubber Industries Association has agreed to import raw rubber from Sri Lanka and also set up an export-oriented synthetic rubber manufacturing plant in the island nation.
A release from the Indian High Commission said on Friday that a commitment to this effect had been given to the Lankan Minister for Commerce, Rishad Bathiudeen, when the association met the Minister on the sidelines of Expo 2012 here on Thursday.
The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry signed an MoU with the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Sri Lanka for cooperation between the two Chambers. The MoU provides for exchange of information on products and business delegations among countries.
The Gujarat chamber members evinced keen interest in working closely with Sri Lankans in the field of diamond cutting, gems & jewelry, agro processing, manufacturing & engineering.
The Indian High Commission, in cooperation with Indo-Lanka Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Indian CEOs Forum in Sri Lanka, organised an Indo- Lanka Business Forum on Thursday for the benefit of the visiting Indian business delegation.
During the forum, opportunities available for Indian business in Sri Lanka were highlighted, with special emphasis on tourism and the hospitality sector.
