Indo-Lanka talks on ETCA today
Posted by Editor on August 9, 2016 - 10:28 am
Sri Lanka and India is reported to hold official level talks on the proposed Economic and Technology Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) today in Colombo.
A four-member Indian delegation is expected to arrive in the country for the talks. This is the first official level talks between the two sides on ETCA though the Government on an earlier occasion had said the agreement would be signed by the end of this year.
However, there is widespread criticism of ETCA with some political parties and professional organizations taking to the streets in opposition of this agreement.

13 Amendment was forced down our throat by India. Like manner it seems ETCA is forced upon Sri Lanka. What happen in case ETCA not signed? SL going to be wiped out from mother earth??
Mr Amarakoon. What this idea of SL going to be wiped out from mother earth. Oh no that will never happen and don’t ever think about it. British could not do it. Portuguese and Dutch could not do it. They were professionals. These armature Tamils and Indians have no chance.
Dear Amarakoon,
Sri Lanka cannot be wiped out geographically but its nomenclature will soon be changed to either as Ravanastan or Siri Ranilstan as an annexed colony of the Great Bharatha. The latter name Siri Ranilstan is a better choice to perpetuate the names of the two Sinhala Leaders who shall never be called traitors by their henchmen.
I agree Mr. Ranjith. Government is agreeing to Indian pressure. I do not understand why there is such hurry to sign this infamous agreement? What is so pressing about it. If the YP government feel ETCA is that important why they can’t have a referendum?
Could someone please enlighten Onlanka readers on the contents of ETCA?
Has this government forgot about the state the country was in during the war. How many lives lost. How many were paralyzed. It is OK for us. What about the poor solders who lost there limbs, eye sites etc. After going through hard time and to negotiate a deal with these guys is utter madness.
During the war. not only Sri Lankan Tamils, but Indian Tamils , Malaysians Tamils, Singapore Tamils with the Moreautious ( I can not spell that) government. got to gather and took weapons against us. We were alone and fought and defeated them. That was not a easy stack.
Last thing we want that again. I am not sure the way this government (Gandhi type) that peace will sustained.
Mr Jerome Rathnasiri, I do not think this the forum to explain the ETCA. Please read it from those who lobby them ( I mean the YP government) or read the statements issued and speeches by SR professionals. Also do a google search and study about the economic pact signed between the land locked country Nepal and big brother India. India can squuze Nepal at any time. When they do that Nepal come to its knees and succumb to Indian pleasure. Food, Fuel, essential medicine sky rocketed many times. Nepal also have a tribe near Indian boarder and that tribe is manipulated by India. Remember ‘Labbata thibba atha thamai Puhulatath thiyanne.
My dear Ranjith you are spot on. Yes, these Tamil dominated Moricious Government voted against Sri Lanka backing US sponsored resolution. The enormous privilege we have now: the freedom of movement is attributed to defeating LTTE terror out fit. I can understand the YP government’s wrath against MR. YP government hell bent on condemning the winning of terror war. Thus it is normal to demonize the gallant soldiers who fought it. I still remember what I saw in Atlanta airport in Georgia, USA 4 yeas ago. There were some 20 USA soldiers with uniform came through the arrival gate. USA folks there stood up and started cheering and clapping (These soldiers were returning from Afghanistan on leave). What YP government doing to our own soldiers who lost their limbs? It is not fair.
There’s lots of rantings from Sinhala supremacists.
The truth will prevail, one day, not in the distant future.
The supremacists claimed that the war was fought with the Budhu Sasana on one hand and the gun on the other.
The endings of the war were the peak of the genocide that was committed on the minorities by the majority. Someone will pay with blood for this crime against humanity. The day is not far off.
Mr. Thuleepan Somasundaram,
On perusing your earlier contributions to this forum I had a feeling that your comments are fairly balanced and logical. In fact I had a very positive feeling that you are a Colombo based educated person . However Mr.Somasundaram your dragging Buddhism into the picture is quite uncalled for. One thing Buddha Sasana cannot be taken into one hand and the other thing is religion was never mentioned right through this ethnical war. You are simply hurting our feelings . There were wars called Crusades where religious Scriptures were taken by one hand and the sword in the other. Buddhism was never involved in any of them.
Dear Mr. Thileepan Somasundaram, Bringing Buddha Darma into your comments is unacceptable. You stated that Sri Lankan Security forces fought with Gun in one hand and Buddha Sasana is on one hand. Let me ask you my respected friend, when LTTE suicide bomber assassinated PM of India, Rajiv Ghandhi did she had a Bghawath Geetha on one hand? When LTTE massacred thousands of innocent Sinhala and Muslim civilians did LTTE carrying any religious book or doctrine (e.g. Bghawath Geetha or even Bible?). Please do not bring religious hatred into this forum. You also talked about ‘Supremacists’. I suggest you to go in front of a mirror so that you will clearly see one. Please do refrain pointing fingers at others because four fingers point at you! Especially, your last sentence is threatening; you say someone will pay with blood for this crime against humanity. Can you be more specific? Who is that someone? Are you suggesting another war?
