President Maithripala Sirisena today assured that the prevailing political unrest in the country would come to an end within one week.
He expressed these views while speaking at the special Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) convention held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo.
At the convention, the President said he will not reappoint UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister even if all 225 MPs requested him to do so.

Had HE Sirisna refused to sign 19a this wouldn’t have happened. Thanks god 20a never materialized. HE is capable signing his own death warrant!
The People of this country will never forget the excessive power wielded by the past and present Executive Presidents in this country.
In Jan 2015, the people of this country voted conclusively to accept proposals by the UNF to transfer major portions of executive power to Parliament and also, eliminate the Executive Presidency at the end of one-term President, HE Palleawatte Gamralage Yapa Sirisena.
Following up on the 2015 mandate, the 19A to the Constitution was approved by a large cross bench majority in Parliament.
The current incumbent of the Presidency is now intent on reversing his commitment to being a one-term President and elimination of the Presidency.
This is the root cause of the current political issue.
