Instead of trying to topple government, rally together to do the duty towards nation – President
President Maithripala Sirisena says everybody should be committed to fulfill their responsibilities for the country and the future of the country, without trying to overthrow the government, from the day it was elected to power.
“The political program of the most countries is to work together to take their countries forward, giving their assistance to the new governments being elected in the democratic system. In the contrary, in our country we noticed for the last decades the people were criticizing the politicians who were elected and trying to chase them out through conspiracies”, the President said.
The President made these remarks at the prize giving ceremony of the island-wide competition of the Social Discourse and Cooperation Workshop – 2015, organized by the Ministry of Labor and Trade Union Relations held yesterday at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre.
He also emphasized it is the responsibility of those who fulfill their duties for the country in the public sector as well as in the private sector to give the required support not to break up the programs for the economic and social development of the country presented with a new vision as a new government, but to assist it.
The competition of the Social Discourse and Cooperation Workshop is organized annually by the ministry with the objective of ensuring the industrial relationship between the employers and the employees in the process of production.
The President pointed out the importance of proper maintenance of the relationship between the employer and the employee to continue the production process of the country at the required level.
He also said the divisions in the public sector should end henceforth. “Everybody should work to give the country a quality service, enhancing the brotherhood and the friendship among the workers in the public sector and the private sector”, the President further stated.
President Sirisena symbolically handed over the prizes and the certificates to the winners of the competition of the Social Discourse and Cooperation Workshop – 2015.
Minister of Ministry of Labor and Trade Union Relations, W. D. J. Seneviratne, State Minister Ravindra Samaraweera, Secretary to the Ministry, Gotabhaya Jayaratne and the Commissioner General of Labour Chandani Amarathunga also participated in this event.

yes you are rite Mr. President if everyone final object is developing country then we all should get together forget party and any other differences and help build this country back to success, lets stop criticizing and work towards the same goal, lets make Srilanka Number one in the world
Mr Sirisena, you joined Ranil to throw Mahinda Rajaüakse out of power. The people who elected you, now may elect Mahinda Rajapakse, just accept it and help Mahinda to govern th country.
Does this mean Solidarity Mr Sirisena. You ought to lead by example. Your purpose to abdicated your responsibility to the party was nothing more than to gratify your ego for you then as now dont have the mettle to be a leader. Your government is in shambles for it is a minority government a government that would fall anytime. How can you expect solidarity in the cabinet with the likes of Ravi Karunanayake, S B Dissanayake and Mangala Smaraweera with an unproven track record with greater aspirations that you have.
You and your acolytes have yet to come up with a sustainable agricultural policy. Experts go about claiming that we produce enough to feed the population yet the yields (paddy in particular) are stagnant while the area under cultivation is going down. If you want a real stimulus then you should ban the import of wheat including the PL480 wheat, ration petrol and then ban the imports of vehicles luxury goods that the rural people cannot afford.
Scrap all the fancy projects like megapolis fit enough for the megalomanaics in the government
Our fortuitous President seems to have come across a Great Revelation in that all must rally together to do the duty towards the nation . What a fantastic vision would that have been if all the leaders starting from RT. Hon. D.S., Dundley, Rt.Hon. J.L.K., SWRD., then our own man from South W.Dahanayaka and through Lady Sirimavo to the present day leaders were given unrestricted support as you now claim were offered then ? Is it your contention that we forget the past and support you unreservedly to keep you in power?
