Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Monday condemned the Sri Lankan government for scrapping the Tamil version of its national anthem.
“If the reports in this regard are true, it is strongly condemnable. This will further dishearten Tamils (in Sri Lanka), who are already suffering. I condemn it,” he said in a statement here.
Sri Lanka had scrapped the Tamil version of its national anthem at official and state functions after the cabinet decided at its last meeting, that the national anthem can only be rendered in the Sinhala language at official functions.

It should be so.! That’s it.! Sinhalese’re still suffering here from some local law & orders called “multi-national/multi-religious”…! Sinhala majority face difficulties with those things which made for the favour of minorities.! It shouldn’t be so too..!
Mr.Karunadhi, can you tell me which countries in the world having two differant anthems if it is so why not india or tamilnsdu,Because in your country have most of differant culchers people,Even the western countries like germany who got most of turkish they also have only one national anthem.so do not worry about srilanken tamils, you have to look after namilnadus tamils.I am also tamil person, I am asking you what about muslims and the burger who lives more years than tamils in srilanka.I think Ltte and so called western tamils to blame, regading the present srilanken crises.not to the present governmant.
Well said Pillayan. You are a truly patriotic SL Tamil.
Isn’t it strange that Karunanidhi is silent about the Indian National Anthem is sung in the national language Hindi in Tamil Nadu on all state events? He hasn’t uttered a word against it. Surely, with 70 million Tamilians in Tamil Nadu, with people like Nedumaran and Vaiko baying for independence and creation of Tamil nation in Tamil Nadu, KN should for a start request a Tamil version of Indian National Anthem be sung on all state occasions!
So Mr KN my advice is, please keep out of SL politics and not stir things up in SL. The majority Tamils in SL gladly accepts the SL national anthem be sung in Sinhalese, as it is most appropriate, and meaningless otherwise. The national flag of SL is also only one flag. We do not have a separate Tamil flag for Tamil provinces. LTTE tried to hoist an ugly tiger flag in the areas they misappropriated, but was later liberated by the SL army for the Tamil SL citizens, to live peacefully onceagain, free of the fear of their children being conscripted.
The official language in the Tamil areas is Tamil in SL. The Sinhalese officials working in Tamil provinces have to learn Tamil. The children in Tamil provinces have to learn Sinhala also along with English and Tamil. Likewise, in the South, the Sinhalese children learn Sinhala, Tamil and English. This is the policy to help greater integration of the nation, by being able to understand each other’s languages. There will be no fears and suspicions then. In India however, the official language is Hindi in all states.
hey,, This old man why always this much worry about our country? hey karunaidhi you Sri Lanka is now peace country!!!Don`t worry about Sri Lanka, look after you people. you people said you not doing nothing for them!!
