Legal action against those commemorating LTTE – Minister
Legal action will be taken against anyone commemorating a proscribed organisation, Defence State Minister Ruwan Wijewardene said.
If any person or persons have held ceremonies in the North to commemorate the LTTE organisation or any of its past leaders they will be prosecuted, Wijewardene said.
Wijewardene said that Prabhakaran was the leader of the LTTE which was a proscribed organisation. His assistants were also terrorists who had died after being members of the proscribed LTTE.
The LTTE was a brutal terrorist organisation which fought to create a separate state.
Many other foreign countries too had proscribed it, as a brutal terrorist organisation.Supporting such an organisation or commemorating its leadership or membership was also proscribed by the law in this country.
There were reports that certain persons had held ceremonies in the North to commemorate the LTTE organisation and its membership.
Police investigations have been launched to identify persons responsible for such commemorative ceremonies and those fund guilty will be brought before the law, Wijewardene said speaking to the media during a ceremony held at Mawaramandiya.

My Dear Ruwan,
A few days ago, your honourable leader was berating on ‘Net Neutrality’ in an international Forum saying how freedom of action and freedom of words were causing significant change in World Order.
Mate, you sound a bit behind the views of your leader. Ruwan, flying the Sinhala Buddhist patriot’s flag does not get you ahead, my dear. You will just be another Wimal W.
Ruwan, just study Hrunika and what a wonderful leader she will be in the next decade. You guys have a lot to learn from star, Hirunika.
Dear defense State Minister Ruwam Wjewardene, these are just empty words to fool the annoyed masses over LTTE cutting the Birthday Cake of the terror leader Velupilai. If you ‘talk the Talk…you’ve got to walk the walk. Many photos of this celebration flying all over social media. What the YP government did was asking security forces to wear civil cloths (unarmed) and observe the events.
Attn: Mr. Pungai Almaida, What Ruwan Wijewardna trying to say (although this is ‘puss-wedi’) he wants implement the law & order (he is rather talking to the gallery). Implementing Law & Order is not waving Sinhala – Buddhist patriotic flag. Of course these days we notice that Law & Order only apply to Sinhalese-Buddhists. For example, take Muttur & Kanthikudi. Folks their ride bicycles with wearing helmets. If the Traffic Police start implementing law & order, is it waving Sinhala Buddhist flag. Velipilai is someone killed thousands of people (Tamil, Muslims & Sinhalese), kidnapped thousands of Tamil Children (put a Cyanide capsule around the neck and send to war front, while his children and Tamil Diaspora children placed like Canada able to attend schools). Please also note Ruwan Wijewardane representing the Yaha Palanaya Government and he speaks for the government where there are Sinhala Buddhists, Sinhala Christians, Tamils, Muslims in the cabinet. So, he is not waving the Sinhala-Buddhist flag exclusively.
Mr/Ms. Almaida, you also asked Minister Ruwan to learn leadership from Ms. Hirunika. May be Hirunika learnt the art from Ms. Vijayakala. BTW, Ms. Hirunika taught us how to Kidanap Civilians from a Defender. Are you suggesting the Hon. Minister learn the art of Kidnapping?
