A senior police officer said the president had ordered the Director of the Presidential Security Division to inform the police to deploy municipal workers to remove the garbage. On receiving the president’s orders, the police had taken immediate steps to remove garbage in and around Maharagama.

Very Good! Keep it up MR. President!!!
Where was the garbage removed to? I hope not to another mountain that catches fire
If there is a will, there is a way! Viva Prez Gota! To achieve this under Ponil, Mongreli, Mr. Penthouse cabal would have been unthinkable – as demonstrated by how garbage ridden our country has become over the past 5 years! Simply speaking those kooks had no love for Sri Lanka!
Mr Amarakoon . Cleaning garbage in Maharagama or anywhere else is not presidential issues. What i expect from his was honest and unbiased judicial system and restore law and order. That is a priority. With out that it will be like the puppet government we had.
This is part of law and order! Isn’t it? I can see where you are going!
The Nation spent many billions of valuable LKR’s in electing an Executive president who around inspecting garbage dumps in the suburbs and deploys security personnel to ensure proper garbage disposal !
What a joke of a Nation we are !
In fact, the Maharagama Local Authority is controlled by the President’s own Political Party !
If that Political Party cannot effectively manage a Local Authority and ensure proper garbage collection and disposal, wonder how it is gonna manage the Nation !
Excellent David,
Instead of electing a high profile Garbage Manager who also functions as the Executive President, the Nation would have been better off appointing a Public Servant as the National Garbage Manager with Executive Powers over Local Authorities to ensure proper management of garbage collection and disposal.
That person will be the ‘Kunu Raja’ of the Nation.
Once done, the Executive President will find time to his work instead of inspecting legal and illegal garbage dumps all over the Nation.
The president had given the order on seeing the garbage dump while commuting on the road. Can’t you appreciate his good work? Just because he doesn’t belong to your party you found some excuse to bash him in public. What a pathetic behaviour! You need to change your attitude!
Dumbo,
“President Rajapaksa had reportedly seen garbage piles in several places in Maharagama while on his way to …….”
This is from the report above. Does it says President had gone around inspecting garbage? It is people like you that makes the nation a joke, not the president.
Mervin,
Thank you for your bashing.
If I were the President and if I see a garbage dump, I will ring the Local Authority in charge of the area and lodge a complaint like any other citizen.
As a Politician, if the Local Authority is controlled by my party, I will ring the Party Head and inform him that my Party Colleagues leading this Local Authority are letting down the Party and should be compelled to comply with the high ideals of the Party.
I will not use Public Resources of my Govt to resolve issues that are not meant to be resolved by the Resources.
, Dear David and Ranjith, You both seem to be wearing thick GREEN glasses to see the world.in a very pessimistic perspective.. To you a door ajar is half closed but to many of us it is half open.
Please remove your thick glasses and say ‘now the world looks better.’ Gota is not a politician in its strickest sense but a man on a mission with a vision. Please give him a chance.s
People are bias . But me as a personal individual and a business owner had faced lot of issues on disposing garbage . Yahapalana government informed the public to separate garbage in bins . But in my residence area in malabe they come twice a week but furthermore they come on their own dates so the garbage stink with worms some times dogs comes and pulls the garbage . In my business locations in Kirulapana and Maradana the garbage Lorry driver comes and give the estimate for the garbage bags because it’s a business not the government earns the dirt man earn and his supervisor per lot some times 4000-6000 Rs we pay per week instead of Muciple taxes If we do not pay they do not Bother even to look at our location … I am not bias but disposing dirt was a big problem. Earlier government closed doors but didn’t give solutions . Our new president has started up with burning points of Srilankan people . You cannot appoint a person or a manager to find solutions for people’s problems but it should come from the head then the time line will be strong . I feel than any we will get a better relief than the previous government in economical , cultural and social Tks
Victor : please, do tell any other garbage disposal method.
