MAYHEM AT MATTAKKULIYA: ALL POLICE OFFICERS TRANSFERRED
July 04, 2010: All police officers, who had been on duty at the Mattakkuliya police station when a tense situation arose there last night, have been transferred.
Police had arrested about 100 suspects over the incident and some of them were produced before M. M. Mohamed, Colombo Additional Magistrate, who ordered them detained with the Colombo Crimes Division.
The suspects were ordered to be produced in court again tomorrow morning.
“The situation arose when a suspect in connection with a heroin racket was taken into custody,” said SP Prishantha Jayakody, Police media spokesman.
At the police station, the suspect had injured himself by breaking a glass and he was later admitted to Colombo National Hospital.
According to the police media spokesman, the tense situation had arisen when area residents staged a protest at the Mutwal police station.
The assistance of soldiers too had to be sought to quell the tense situation.

There are lot of complains regarding the ugly behaviours of Sri Lanka police officers. One incident was Rawatawatte police station, that some months ago SI Newton shot and killed two innocent young boys. Second incident was two police constables beat and killed an innocent boy who was suffering from a mentel illness in Wellawatte sea beach. Both cases are still running in the courts. We will see the judgements of these two incidents. I am not a lawmaker, but these people should be severely punished by the law. If not people will take the law into their hands. The main reason for these incidents is always there is a political hand behind them to save them. Also our President is above the law and what about the citizens.
