New Year Messages
New year message by President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena says the dawn of the New Year is an occasion to recollect our achievements and failures as well as gains and losses in the year that ended.
As 2019 dawns with new hopes and goals, it is my pleasure to wish all Sri Lankan’s a happy and prosperous new year.
It was a victory for all of us to ensure sovereignty of the people’s rule in the country. I am thankful to everyone who worked hard to preserve democracy, setting differences aside.
The New Year will be challenging for Sri Lanka. Nevertheless, we are committed to making a better society for our future generations.

The Former President (Message No 3) continues to rely on ‘enemy forces’. I wonder who they are? Maybe, he is his own enemy. My advice to him for 2019 is to stop claiming victory in the war against Tamils; that is now history and is forgotten. MR should come up with a comprehensive proposal for the socio-economic redemption of this country; this proposal should be different to that from RW’s neo-liberalism. MR and Bandula G should understand that ad-hoc enforced price reductions of fuel and basic food items are not appreciated. The people require real economic advancement in terms of income and means of living.
The second message from the PM is short and to the point and is based on a massive victory (even greater than the victory against Tamil terrorists). That message is the best of the 3 messages.
The 1st message for the president is the worst of the lot. It is hypocrisy to the max. TS Elliot will turn in his grave being quoted by this illiterate. Where did this person read TS Elliot? He refers to ‘opportunities to learn from past mistakes and take correct path towards progress’. As No 1 citizen of this country, he failed to uphold the constitution on which he had taken an oath. The highest court in the land found him guilty but the highest court in the land failed to punish. Now, this person is sitting in the highest of the chairs in the Country and is pontificating the 25 million citizens on his stupidity!!
