Police won’t prevent BBS event in Kandy – SSP
Police would not prevent a Bodu Bala Sena event scheduled to be held today at 3.00 p.m. opposite the Sri Dalada Maligawa as it was a religious event, police spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said yesterday.
However, the SSP warned that action would be taken if the event was used to incite racism and create religious disharmony.
SSP said that it was unlikely that the BBS would be able to hold its ‘Adhistana Pooja’ as permission for the event had not been granted by the authorities concerned.
When contacted, Chief Executive Officer of the BBS operating from Colombo, Dilanthe Vithanage said last night that they were planning to hold the religious event with the participation of 300 to 400 Buddhist monks from Mahiyanganaya, Colombo and Kandy.

If BBS events are to be banned, then SLMC and TNA events must also be banned as, if BBS is deemed to incite racial/communal differences causing disharmony/damage to the social fabric of SL, then SLMC and TNA are really the gurus in with skill (as they have operated so with their narrow racial/religious political party labels, with even public platform speeches that have always highlighted their divisiveness from the “Sri Lankan” label). If BBS’ constitutional guarantees of freedom of speech and assembly are somehow, unfairly and hypocritically (for reason afore given), impinged upon or curtailed by whoever, then I personally will contribute substantial fund for its legal defence, right up to the Supreme Court of SL…and believe me, I know I am only a fraction of a fraction of Sri Lankans who is waiting to do so.
Typo-lapse…apologies, meant to say “I know i am only a fraction of a fraction of the whole universe of fair-minded patriotic Sri Lankans waiting to do do.
