President asks PM to step down
President Maithripala Sirisena requested United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, on Monday (12), to resign as Prime Minister and appoint another person for the post, according to highly placed sources.
Government source said that the President had made this request during a meeting with the PM at the President’s official residence. There should be a change in the post of Prime Minister and a Cabinet reshuffle, or the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will not remain in the government, the President has told the Prime Minister, according to sources.
This meeting was held after the President had met UNP Cabinet Ministers, State Ministers and Deputy Ministers. According to Article 46 of the Constitution the President has no power to strip the Prime Minister of his position.

Kick him out you commit suicide. Good for both of you and to the country.
That will be an excellent outcome for this wonderful nation.
Hope President pursues this matter and ensures the departure of Wimpy Wicks from the political arena.
This will make way for the uniquely positioned Namal Rajapaksa to be appointed PM.
Namal is the only politician in parliament representing the 3rd generation of a great southern political family.
His political wisdom and acumen are as tall as the Himalayan Mountains.
Imagine, the culture and knowledge and wisdom he would have gained from his illustrious grandfather and again, followed by the father who is a super patriot, Statesman and National Hero.
I hope the elders in the political arena will recognise NR’s unique capabilities and skills and handover country’s leadership to this promising young man.
Cant imagine if the above comment regarding NR is for real…. or is he just joking … he was not even born when his grandfather died,,, are you from another world…
Sirirsena has no right to request Ranil to step down considering that the people have no confidence in him. The party under gis leadership mustered 7 point something of the votes cast. This vote does not reflect
The outcome of this provincial does directly reflect either the presidency or the parliament. However indirectly has a bearing on the presidency and the coalition government. SLFP under sirisenas leadership mustered mustered only 7 point something of the total votes cast and is party ty Ranils coalition which colleted 23 something.
So the claim made by halfwits like Rajitha Senaratne and Mangala Samaraweer does not hold good to cpntinue to govern.
If sirisena has any sense of integrity and salvage his position he ought to call for a general election . In conclusion of the general election he should appoint a new government on the the electoral returns and the then Sirisena should resign from the presidency. This should be done without further badgering to avoid a crisi.
