President to present Cabinet Paper to abolish Executive Presidency
President Maithripala Sirisena will present a Cabinet Paper to abolish the Executive Presidency and to introduce a new electoral system at the Cabinet meeting scheduled to be held tomorrow (18).
“The Cabinet Paper will be presented tomorrow to abolish the Executive Presidency and to transfer its powers to the Parliament,” President Sirisena said a short while ago on Tuesday (17) during an event held at the Temple Trees in Colombo.
He added the Cabinet Paper will also suggest the establishment of a new electoral system.
Maithripala Sirisena, when he was the Common Candidate, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the opposition political parties including the United National Party (UNP) in which it agreed to abolish the Executive Presidency, change the electoral system and amend the 18th Amendment to the Constitution.
The President stressed he will abolish the remaining powers of the executive presidency, which are challenging to democracy and freedom of the people.
Speaking at the funeral of late Venerable Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero at the Parliament grounds he had also assured steps would be taken to abolish the executive presidency.

At last, realisation has dawned upon the puppet that the strings attached to him are being pulled by those who thrust him into prominence.
So dear MY3, being a youngster among upcoming leadership, it is best that you strengthen the SLFP and come forward as the Prime Ministerial candidate against t Wimpy Wicks at the next elections in 2020.
CBK will be a dead duck by then and young blood in the UNP would have hopefully killed (politically) RW.
It’s a piece of cake MY3, you are bound to be the PM of the Sri Lanka Freedom (judukarayas and ethnol mudalalis) Party for 10 more years.
Excellent political thinking MY3, at least you have bowled out CBK-RW manipulators.
Maithripala Sirisena is weak and is reflected by the gross inaction taken by him on the following issues
probe into the corrupt practises carried out by the governor of the Central Bank
Establishing a gestapo type police department to conduct investigate, arrest and hold in detention
Resolve the police assault of the student
Detention of Wimal Weerawansa on the eve of his departure thereby violating his parliamentary privileges and with it his human rights
Failure to direct a meaningful probe into the Avant Garde affair
Release of tiger terrorists
These are only a few that were given much publicity and one begins to wonder how issues are in the making that would affect the electorate with Ranils minority government is weak and he is weak and his coalition partners are those that have been flip flopping in and out the SLFP to serve their vested interest.
Sirisena was voted into the presidency by the `minority’ but then the tamils nor the muslims did not expect much out of him and most likely they were aware as to how vulnerable he was as a President!
What are his intellectual achievements………diploma from the Kundasale even then people do not know much about Kundasle except those working in the DoA
It is ironic that Sirisena is in and out of temple trees visiting Ranil …..most likely to negotiate as to what his role is when he abdicates his presidency
Some of the so called ‘leaders ‘ in the country work with emotions and the feelings that they get and received from other crooks.
I’m not sure if so, how a country can be manageable with emotions.
There are certain things highly required to a country which needs a proper upper hand to control.
We have seen countries like Libiya, Iraq, Syria and Egypt is falling apart.
Why it happened?
Some people required a regime or a one man a tight person for ruling.
US, UK and UN pull those needed person and installed a puppets. All those countries started and uprooted with riots and violations which was not happened during those ruling periods.
Now all those countries are going backwards and people don’t have proper living conditions.
Srilanka also in the same route now.
The agenda placed by US, UK and other allies still on the cards.
If you are a person who likes the country to be stable, soon needs to change this agenda and the gang.
Else its the time to start migrate to other countries and live like a refugee.
Decision is on your hands.
