Simply cannot understand on the law operates.
This guy is accused of misusing vehicles for the presidential fleet.
OK, now he cannot access any of these vehicles. He has no control over them.
So why keep him behind bars for that offence? To pursue prosecution for the alleged offence and to ensure he attends Courts, all what is required is confiscation of passport and a heavy cash surety.
I was watching the event where another politician was being brought to Courts form the prison Hospital. There were not less than 300 policemen at site; there were security vehicles all over the place. Then arrived the luxury ambulance carrying the hero.
That entire event is likely to have cost the Taxpayer approx. LKR 1 million; this money could have built a couple of kilometres of roadway in the rural area.
