Selection Committee resigns
The entire National Cricket Selection Committee headed by Sanath Jayasuriya has tendered their resignations effective 7 September.
Jayasuriya together with Ranjith Madurasinghe, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Asanka Gurusinha and Eric Upashantha, have decided to resign and they have done so through a combined letter to Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara yesterday.
There was huge pressure on the Jayasuriya led Selection Committee to step down as they were criticized for making too many changes and bringing in 50 plus players to the SL team. However, Jayasuriya defended their action citing high number of injures required frequent changes to the team.
This decision has been taken just two days after Sri Lanka conceded a 3-0 ODI series defeat with two games to go against India at home. They were whitewashed in the three match Test series as well. Prior to the India series, Sri Lanka lost the ODI series to Zimbabwe at home and was winless in South Africa ODIs and Tests, in addition to a group stage exit from the Champions Trophy.
This was Jayasuriya’s second stint as Chief Selector.

This thattaya is a dead duck, mate.
Goodbye Sanath, we enjoyed when you were playing but not the balls have been drained.
enjoy the rest of your life, Sanath, and leave SL Cricket to flourish.
Good riddance but what you, former captain mathews , Sports Minister, SLT Presidents have done to Ajantha Mendis cannot be forgotten or forgiven
Dear Mr. Zylva, Please do not insult people calling them ‘Thattaya’. In my opinion Sanath and the selection committee did their best. But you have to understand they can’t go to middle and play for our team.
We have a all rounder called Matthews who get injured all the time and he cant even ball now. He never scores more than 30! Tharanga, Chandimal hopeless!! Mendis score just like ‘Awaareta pol watenawa wage’. India loves Maliga’s bawling. Our team can’t score more than 217 runs. So, how can we win matches.
4th ODI, Malinga, the ‘Monkey’ Captain has conceded 21 in 3 overs.
India gonna reach 400 in 50 overs !
India unstoppable with Virat Kihli on fire,
India heading to 600 in 50 overs.
Only way, bring back Vass and Sanga into team and maybe, Sanath.
Well, However, India scored 376. SL couldn’t pass the magic number 217! Only Mathews showed some guts. By all means SL doesn’t deserve to take part in next WC. SL should go to the drawing board and learn the basics. Play with Associate members like Canada, Holland, Kenya and try to beat them and learn how sweet winning is!
