A Muslim school teacher has been arrested for damaging the board of the mosque in Paragahadeniya in Mawathagama in Kurunegala district.
He had been arrested by a police patrol when the eye witnesses in the neighbourhood had complaint about the act. A few days ago Bodu Bala Sena leader Ven. Galabadaatte Gnanasara Thera declared that there’s an issue regarding the activities of the mosque in Paragahadeniya.

I find this totally ridiculous for a Muslim to be arrested for damaging a board instructing people to be quiet in front of a mosque! The board is not in front of the mosque, in its own premises. It has been fixed in front of a transformer in a public place. Did the Muslims who fixed this board have permission from the local council to fix this board in a public place? Presuming no permission had been given, no law is broken if someone quite rightly damaged the board or removed it to show his opposition for such a board being erected in a public place.
No such boards are fixed in public places near Buddhist temples or Christian churches and Hindu kovils. So why do Muslims attempt to do otherwise in public places illegally and agitate if such a board has been damaged or removed?
Since there is no other organisation to defend the rights of other denominations, it is fair that at least BBS is fighting in defence of the State religion. GOSL seems to be helpless in the wake of the show of force of Muslim organisations. Perhaps it fears to lose the support of those Muslim parties within the govt. and the support of Muslim nations.
