UN urges Sri Lanka to stick to its commitments on accountability
The United Nations has yet again insisted Sri Lanka to stick to its commitments on accountability.
Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesman for the UN Secretary-Generalsaid that there are agreements between Sri Lanka and the international community and Sri Lanka should stick to those agreements.
“There are issues between the international community and Sri Lanka and agreements to ensure accountability. And we hope those are followed,” he said.
He made the observation while responding to a reporter at a media briefing in New York to respond to reports that President Maithripala Sirisena has refused to agree to have international judges in the domestic accountability process.

This is UN’s opinion. And not a threat.
Why not take a leaf from the book Tony Blair followed in regard to Iraq? He came to SR to do the midwifery of the current government and said he would give any help. Just say to Stéphane Dujarric that US and UK lead, we follow.
Tell Israel to stick to its commitments!
Indra you are right what ever said and done Toney Blair, Cameroon like their country and treasure national pride. You will see this Israeli leaders too. Unfortunately, our leaders are ready to ‘run that extra mile’ to betray Sri Lanka.
AMARAKOON, Yes fully agree. We, mostly our leaders to whom the rest of the population look to, lack that. Their first stop is to go and get foreigners to sort their problems and getting their help to come to power and then keep liking their shoes.
Our leaders are pathetic. They don’t care about the country. Only thing they care is for there personal gain. If they had little bit of care to our country the war would have completed within few years with out cosign death and injury to our solders . For money they not only sell the country, they will sell there family as well.
Our constitution does not permit foreign judges and whatever the international committee states which contravene our constitution cannot be done
Well Eng Perera that is constitution (it is a fact) but sometimes I wonder whether the present government is serving the interests of citizens of Sri Lanka or of those dictate terms through the so called UNHRC, for ulterior motives.
the present government we help to elect must be guided to follow the constitution and laws for the rapid developments of our countery given by article 27 of our constitution and also to give us least cost electricity given by Electricity Act No 20 of 2009 which will raise the living standard of our people
