US calls for quick action against perpetrators, end to Emergency
The US Embassy in Colombo has called on the Government of Sri Lanka to act quickly against perpetrators of sectarian violence, protect religious minorities and their places of worship, and swiftly conclude the State of Emergency.
President Maithripala Sirisena on Tuesday decided to declare a week-long state of Emergency to rein in the spread of communal violence, a day after clashes broke out in the district of Kandy, which resulted in the death of two persons and left several mosques and houses damaged.
“Rule of law, human rights, and equality are essential for peaceful coexistence,” the US Embassy said issuing a statement.
“It is important that the Government of Sri Lanka act quickly against perpetrators of sectarian violence, protect religious minorities and their places of worship, and conclude the State of Emergency swiftly, while protecting human rights and basic freedoms for all.”

Hands Off, you yankees.
Your leader, Trump, is causing all that ethnic angst in the US.
We need a clean and pure Sinhala Buddhist state in our emerald isle.
We will achieve that.
So, you Yankees, go away, and if you can, build that wall in Mexico border, you racist pricks.
Well said Nandana,
The Sinhala Buddhist leaders and people are backbone-less.
In fact, the leader (so called Sillysena). openly said so.
The stupid Americans and Colonial British should be diplomatically requested to f**** off.
more than 100 years back the colonial regime unfermined the Sinhalese by conceding to the Hambaya (pop of about 50,000) demand to stall the Esala festival. The situation escalated and ultimately the colonists declared marshal law to contain the violence,
Since then racial conflicts were seasonal and always led to curfew, state of emergency.
Now as then these conflists are political and just like the tamils the muslims feel threatened with the empowerement of sinhala solidarity, for sinhala solidarity would mean the muslim commubnity will loose its bargaining chip that so far has decided the feneral election and presidential election outcome.
Most recent events is a consequence of the recent provincial government elections. The results are a reflection of the rejection of the government of the government for its failiure to implement meaningful economic policies! harboring crooks in key ministries and the inability of ranil nor sirisena to provide the ledership to those who voted them to power. Sirisena has proven to be blatant liar and Ranil a crook and now his new portfolio gives him unbridled power to abuse it!
US embassy ought to recognise the fact that they have lost the auithority over the police and before long if this crook stay in power we can expect a state of anarchy
