Vehicle registrations down 23 pct Jan – Sep
The total number of vehicles registered during the nine months ending September 30 2013, declined 23 percent to 244,361 from 316,820 in the same period last year. Import of vehicles also fell 20 percent to 235,434 from 292,512 last year, the Treasury said.
During the period under review the new bus registrations fell 49 percent to 1,341 from 2,645 a year ago, while import of buses dropped 67 percent to 1,073 from 2,812.
Motor car registration dropped 24 percent to 20,450 from 26,890 a year ago, while import of cars increased six percent to 21,028 from 19,784 units during the nine months last year.
Registration of three wheelers declined 14 percent to 64,459 from 74,853, while imports dropped four percent to 66,862 from 69,527.
Motor cycle registration dropped 20 percent to 124,091 from 154,713, while imports fell 18 percent to 114,109 from 138,484.
Goods transport vehicles registration declined 40 percent to 23,739 from 39,872, while imports declined 53 percent to 20,312 from 43,240.
Land vehicle registration declined 43 percent to 9,692 from 16,929 a year ago, while imports declined 36 percent to 11,434 from 17,857.
Other vehicle registration dropped 36 percent to 589 from 918, while imports fell 24 percent to 616 from 808.
