……. and then another idiot bowl the same bowl that got hit for a six few seconds ago, And the whole series was over for Sri Lanka! Sri Lankan cricket team is a small sample of the wiser society amply displaying lack of discipline and the ability to think and analyse when exactly when the two qualities are called for. It is not being young and inexperienced made the exit, not thinking and the wicket-keeper day dreaming in the previous match. I feel very sorry about Mahela.
Agree with you, Indra Akke,
The team does not simply have the ability to think and analyse.
That skill comes to the team from the Coach and the team does not have a Coach who relates to them.
I fully understand Mahela’s departure prior to the main game.
That is great!! But in the last over SL lost. SA’s Miller hit two sixers!!!! But SL fought like lions.
Ha, ha, Amarakoon,
Lions ?? they were like the toothless lions in the Dehiwala Zoo !!!
If Sri Lanka fought like lions, then what should we say about performance of Afghan and Bangladesh teams? They displayed that against real powerful teams. Particularly Afgans after everything they have gone through in last few decades? This is the problem with Sri lanka and its people (majority of) . Being unable to see something for what it is and having no clear objective. Going to play T20 wold cup, the only objective and focus is to win the trophy. All else we can write into Mhawanshaya or Coolawanshaya with as many ‘alankara’ and ‘upama’. nobody else in the cricketing wold give a hoof of, since the issue is who wins the trophy. I must point out while playing like ‘lions’ what they display was inaptitude when the qualities of being lions called for. If yesterday Kumara could not think of his task in the last over was to prevent the opposite scoring big and avoid getting hit for a six, he does not deserve to be in that team. Specially to the same that went wrong with the previous ball. Also, the captain should have the presence of mind, being the captain, talking to this guy after he got hit for a six in the previous ball, before he balled again and remind him what was required. It is not armchair cricket, it is what should have been there and why we lost both matches. T20 are not Test. Every single mistake as well as right action makes a huge difference in outcome.
Excellent analysis, Indra,
The T20 game has max 120 balls.
Every ball is critical in the final outcome unlike test matches and the 50 over games.
The 36 balls in the 1st six overs and the 24 balls in the last 4 overs are of a higher criticality.
The teams who understand the criticality of each ball and strategise accordingly, perform well.
The thoughts and deeds that go in to the delivery of each ball to meet with the capability and positioning of the batting side, helps in implementing the overall winning strategy.
This was what Mahela tried as a ‘Consultant’ but he departed in disgust.
Mr. Guy Goda, Why the ‘Lion’ word is allergic to you? Have you seen the match? SL fought with Tooth and Nail!
SL may have fought ‘tooth and nail’ but lacked a winning strategy.
The last over was all about containing the score but the bowler’s and the team’s performance lacked a strategic backing.
Yes, I agree fully with Guy, Not because he supported me. Because, Sri Lankan payers has no strategy or does not follow what was being told and discussed before the match. You can read and chant religious texts all your life whole day, sleepless, but if you do not make an effort to think and understand you will never achieve anything for that effort. A child can byheart school books keeping the feet dipped in a cold water bucket to prevent become sleepy (as done in my school days), but will be only able to recite without no understanding or ability apply. That is the situation with SL cricket team. All these last 4 matches against proper teams including Bangladesh, majority of the players undid the hard work done by few players and the wider population who wants to call themselves ‘lions’ hid behind the glory of what few players did. People those who went to play 20/20 should have only one objective. That is to win the trophy. It is not about getting onto the top of this and that table. Those are spin offs of good play. Can be individual aims, but not an objective as a cricket team. That is why it is so pathetic and laughable to see this bragging on in social media about SL team being lions because some players are on th top of tables and few players had to do everything possible since the majority of the team mates drag the team down and gave the possible wins away doing things not worthy of international players, which was possible at one stage of the last 3 games.
