Wigneswaran seeks release of 3 Indians in Premananda case
CHENNAI: Chief minister of Sri Lanka’s Tamil-majority Northern Province C V Wigneswaran has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release three life convicts in the sensational Swamy Premananda case.
The three -Kamalananda, Balan alias Balendiran and Sathis alias Sathishkumar – were convicted and sentenced along with Premananda for raping 13 girls, including minors, and conspiring to murder an inmate in the godman’s ashram near Trichy.
They were sentenced to double life imprisonment, and the punishment was upheld by the Supreme Court in 2005. While Premananda died in Cuddalore prison in 2011, the other three are currently lodged in Puzhal jail in Chennai. All the four were Sri Lankan Tamils.
In his letter, Wigneswaran, a former judge of Sri Lanka’s Supreme Court, said Kamalananda and the others were falsely implicated in the case. “Premananda’s ashram and its properties have to be maintained. No one is there to take care of them. Please immediately release them as they are innocent,” he said. Some senior officials expressed surprise and shock over Wigneswaran questioning the Indian judicial system and describing the convicts as innocent.
Premananda died in 2011 at the age of 59 in due to multiple health problems, including an acute end-stage liver disease. Kamalananda, a close associate of Premananda, Balan and Satish were convicted for abetment in the rape of the girls and the murder of Ravi whose body was buried inside the sprawling ashram at Fathima Nagar near Trichy.
Kamalananda’s wife Dr Chandradevi, who was charged with terminating the pregnancies of some of the rape victims, was convicted and sentenced to a 39-month jail term. She completed her prison term and was released on payment of a fine of Rs 30,000. While Kamalananda and Balan are engineering graduates, Satish had completed higher secondary. All of them have completed 16 of the 40 years of their sentence.
Declining to reply to queries emailed to him by TOI, including one on whether it was right to seek the release of the life convicts, Wigneswaran merely admitted to sending an appeal to Narendra Modi for their release. He added that the case history was known to senior advocate Ram Jetmalani, who had defended the convicts.
A Sri Lankan, Premananda had set up the ashram in the 1980s. In 1994, he was charged with raping the 13 inmates, all Sri Lankan Tamils. The case came to light after one of the victims escaped from the ashram. Another victim became pregnant and a DNA test established that Premananda was the culprit. On August 21, 1997, the then Pudukottai district and sessions court judge R Banumathi (now Supreme Court judge) sentenced Premananda to double life imprisonment and a cumulative fine of Rs 66.4 lakh.

This is what I have been telling since very long time that there were some groups n leaders who were performed in the name of religion those were sprouted from India especially from northern states of bharatham. They are also human n they too have love n lust. These people pretend as that were devoted to God and perform n make them fame not only India but also Sri Lanka. Unfortunately those became major religions in India n Sri Lanka.
So it is not wonder Mr.premananda did as he was a human n he too had feelings n sexual sensations.
Unfortunately another religion also became a major religion not only in India and Sri Lanka but in almost the whole world. In that religion, the women are continuously discriminated and are prisoners of men, the women have to cover their whole body even in stinking heat while the men have the freedom to keep only the necessary body parts covered. Women cannot go to their religious places for worship where only men can go. According to that religion, men are superior to women. Very primitive thinking.
Obviously yes, 2/3 of the world belonging to major religions for sure rather than nonsense especially these extremely stupid nations like India Sri Lanka Nepal etc those who still behind these foolish astrologist n they never believe them selves. Funny people.
Astrology is based on calculations. But all astrologists cannot get it right all the time and it does go wrong. It is bit like western medicine. Not every doctor gets it right and still patients die. Because if that people don’t walk away from western medicine.
Therefore a trade like astrology which is at least based on some calculations is much better than believing in invisible, unseen, fake, fictitious god based extreme religions. There is no one god but too many. Every one thinks their go is the correct one, like small kids thinking their toy is the best.
Believing astrology is not harming humanity. It is a personal thing and if you want to believe you do otherwise you don’t. Simple as that. But those extreme god believing women discriminating religions do affect other people, they compel others to behave as the extremists want, and if not the other person will be killed. That is what “humans” need to get rid of, the “primitive” thinking and “primitive” behavior.
Therefore to me, India, Nepal Sri Lanka do not have such dangerous, uncivilized, selfish and foolish extreme religions, but the middle east does. At the moment most of the middle east based on hollow kindergarten beliefs is the real threat to the humanity .
Some dim-wit said that Astrology is based on calculations ! OMG.
Astrology is based on positions of the planets in the galaxy at any one point in time and is linked to planetary positions of the person seeking advice, at the time of birth.
Once that is determined, Astrologers provide predictions based on precedence (similar to the courts of law where interpretations of law are based on precedence).
High flying lawyers are persons who have extensive experience and have extraordinary capability for research. Astrologers are similar.
On the other matter, CM Wigneswaram is suffering from extreme inferiority complex. He was a Judge and he must be finding this political position rather humdrum. As CM, he has significant administrative responsibility too; boring paperwork. This man is a square peg in a circular hole. he doesn’t belong where he is now. He has clearly demonstrated his inability to deliver as a CM. Poor choice.
Some ganja-addict has mis-interpreted the “calculations” matter on astrology. Yes, it uses the planetary positions as the starting point, but without calculating those positions in relation to the person’s birth time etc, you cannot get any readings, in my small understanding of astrology.
Without calculations how do you know that information? Do you just go outside and look up the sky to see where the hell the planets are?
Once you get certain readings through simple calculations then the astrologer would interpret certain things in the person’s life, like a judge interprets law. The main difference is that law does not do any calculations but purely uses the interpretations of the law by the learned individual and only some times use the so called “precedence”. The precedence has to exist first before some other judge to use it. That means the first time an interpretation has been done, it was done without using “precedence”.
I am no expert in astrology and never have done any such predictions, but I have seen Astrologers doing some adding and subtraction with birth times etc so that is how I knew they do some calculations.
If a pretending expert says adding and subtractions are not “calculations”, then I am not going into an argument with that type of pretending pundits.
