Will appeal in Supreme Court: Mahinda Rajapaksa
Former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said that they do not agree with the interim order which was issued by Court of Appeal today and that they would file an appeal before Supreme Court against the order by tomorrow.
The Court of Appeal today issued an interim order preventing Mahinda Rajapaksa and his cabinet from holding office.
This was after the court decided to proceed with hearing a Writ of Quo Warranto petition signed by 122 legislators that challenges Rajapaksa’s authority to hold office after he lost two no-confidence votes last month.
The judge issued the interim order against Rajapaksa and his cabinet, and asked them to appear in court on Dec. 12 to explain on what basis they hold office.
However, issuing a press release today, Mahinda Rajapaksa said that they do not agree with the interim order issued by the Court of Appeal.

Ranil will gain power with Pro-LTTE supportive MPS and JVP who created civil wars in few occasions. Majority Sinhalese will soon become foreigners in their own motherland. Divided Sinhalese will not understand this now. They will not think about their kids and families. Its not Mahinda nor Ranil, this country will suffer soon. Once whole country is sold they will realize. Go for an election that will sooth this situation.
The only solution to this crisis is to appoint Wasantha Senanayake as Prime Minister.
This guy is ultra flexible; one day he is with Basil R and the next day with top UNP’ers.
He has an excellent family background with both Dudley and FR having been Prime Ministers.
Maraya,
Your idea is appreciated.
Under current circumstances, the UNP is likely to be returned to Parliament with its own majority in a Parliamentary Election followed by Victory in a Presidential Election.
MR made two disastrous decisions; the first, calling early Presidential Elections in 2014 which resulted in a terrible loss on 08 Jan 2015.
The second decision is to stand in front of the Cut Throat Polonarruwa Pambaya on 26 Oct 2018 and accept the Prime Minister-ship.
The second decision will hit him and the R Family hard as they appear to have lost pride and respect that they commanded.
@GindaraP, Thank you for your appreciation.
According the 7th Dec court order, it sis most likely that MY3 will loose with his decision.
Thereafter, we will be having a presidential election within 3 months time. 90% sure that Ranil will not contest for it. They will again use a common C. They will bring in a young person. Most likely that Chamal will contest from the other end as a contender.
According to the current surveys, he will become the president by majority.
The R Family cannot decide on a candidate for the next Presidential Elections.
The R Family cannot support Basil, Chamal or Gothabhaya as candidates. The R Family’s preference is Namal; he has his own issues, inexperience and the age-bar.
Why cannot the R Family promote Dinesh Gunawardane or Kumara Welgama as the Presidential candidate?
there is one place he will be next prime minister but it is certainly not in the world it will be in the hereafter that is hell
